tucked feet

It is dark inside.
A light illumines, loudness
through a translucent, shut door
tracing my bare toes.
I stir, eyes shift beneath
closed eyelids.
I remember the silhouette of my brother
outside my bedroom door
through the bristles of my lashes.
Sh, he whispers,
Leave her alone. She’s still sleeping.
I tuck my feet back under the covers.
I drift off in silence.
